Week 2 Assignment 2

Week 2 Assignment 2

After completing the textbook reading assignment, the lectures, and other activities above, select one of the unit concepts below. Then find a current event in an article at one of the online periodicals listed that will illustrate that concept. Compose an analysis of that event or situation in the article using the unit supervisory concept that you selected.

Remember that content matters in your analysis and responses to others. A sample format for an article analysis is attached here: Discussion Article Analysis Form. Follow this to ensure that you include both information about the situation within the article as well as concepts from our readings that explain it. See the grading rubric on the Assignments and grading page in the Course Information Module for more information.

· The unit textbook concepts for our discussion in this unit are:

· Managers in the global business environment

· How national culture affects business and management

· Management and global outsourcing

· Barriers to entry (such as Tariffs)

· Managers and an ethical dilemma

· Managers and social responsibility

Select one of these concepts and find a related news article at either:

At the New York Times, you can click on “Business” on the left to see the business related articles. You’ll find one (or several articles) to analyze. Remember to focus upon Managers applying your selected concept in your analysis. After reviewing and analyzing one of the current events articles, post your analysis for your classmates to review by Thursday night at midnight. Next, respond to at least three classmates’ posts by Midnight (Central Time) Sunday. Note, too, that you should respond to any comments or questions your instructor presents to you throughout the discussion.

 After watching the required video “Profit’s not always the point” by Harish Manwani and reading the article “Samsung delays launch of Galaxy Fold After Screen Failures” by Sam Kim and Mark Gurman, discuss the 4G Model and the purpose firms must have beyond the products they sale or the service they provide. Pretend you are the executive officer at Samsung responsible for not dreleasing the Galaxy Fold, what would be your response to shareholders and customers regarding the failed product. Use the economic theory and concepts in chapter one to support your response. Remember the idea is to maximize the wealth of shareholders but also be socially responsible to the community that must sustain your product.

  • Compare and contrast strategic controls and financial controls. Provide specific examples of how each may be used to best serve a corporation.
  • As a strategic leader, determine if you would feel ethically responsible for developing your firm’s human capital and state why. Discuss whether or not you believe your position is consistent with the majority or minority of today’s strategic leaders.

 Biological models for the explanation of behavior and, specifically, criminal behavior rely primarily on things that are outside of the control of the individual: genetics, brain physiology, IQ, endocrine system anomalies, and even some physical trauma.

Accepting any of these as true, what does that mean for the process of justice—especially for young offenders? Does the American legal system allow for special treatment for anyone accused of an offense who can also demonstrate diminished capacity because of medically recognized deficiencies? Following this logic, does that support the idea of a special courts system to handle juvenile offenses?

Your response must be at least 200 words in length.

 Psychological models for the explanation of behavior and specifically criminal behavior rely primarily upon things that are outside the control of the individual: developmental issues, psychological trauma, cognitive dysfunction, and a number of diagnosable and recognized mental illnesses.

Accepting any of these as true, what does that mean for the process of justice—especially for young offenders? Does the American legal system allow for special treatment for anyone accused of an offense who can also demonstrate diminished capacity due to medically recognized deficiencies? Following this logic, does that support the idea of a special courts system to handle juvenile offenses?

Your response must be at least 200 words in length.

 Deterrence is a philosophy—not a theory—that assumes human behavior can be altered by some force and has with it several underlying assumptions that must be true about the human condition for the philosophy to be effective when converted to a policy. Identify three necessary conditions that need to be true about humans according to deterrence, and then evaluate whether or not they are true.

Your response must be at least 75 words in length.

 What scientific proof exists that there is a biological contribution to behavior—specifically, criminal or deviant behavior? Identify three biological studies that have shown promise in providing a better understanding of human behavior and what evidence they have provided thus far. Reflection Paper

Description: You will reflect on the relationship between psychology and Christianity as you currently perceive it.

Purpose: In this course, you will encounter different ways that people perceive the relationship between psychological science and Christian faith. Often, students launch into course content without thinking about the topic. The purpose of this reflection paper is to allow you to think about the relationship between these two disciplines before discussing how others have approached the topic.

1. The task is to reflect on the relationship between psychology and Christian faith.

2. There is no required format/content for the reflection, but if you’re having trouble getting started, you might consider the following ideas:

· Whether truth can be found in either/both;

· Whether one is more important and why;

· How psychology is viewed by your church;

· Whether they should mix with each other; and/or

· How your experience has led you to this position.

3. Although you may discuss how your church background has impacted your perceptions, this is not the place to share your personal conversion testimony.

4. Make sure that your reflection demonstrates critical thinking; it must not simply be a collection of personal stories.

5. No citations are necessary for this reflection, but feel free to incorporate Scripture.

6. You are NOT graded on your position; you ARE graded on your thinking.

Paper format:

· At least 2 pages, double-spaced.

· Times New Roman, 12 point font, 1” margins.

· First person is allowed for this assignment.

· You must use Microsoft Word.
